When Dressy Meets Casual

I typically view the casual and dressy sides of my closet as friendly, but not compatible neighbors. One is used for running the errands and relaxing, while the other is for work. However, I’ve been veering away from treating these items as mutually exclusive and have been mixing in my sweats, shorts and shoes to wear with polished items. The comfort factor is key and I like the balance of the new dressy-meets-casual vibe. Here are three ways I’m doing it.

Tapered sweatpants and stilettos: I wear these sweat pants so frequently that I’ve been looking for another pair that doesn’t look quite as sporty. This pair is remarkably soft and while I love their slouchy factor, when paired with a tailored vest and stilettos, they’re also work appropriate.

H&M Top, Robert Rodriguez Shorts, Zara Sandals

Running shorts and peplum top: Anytime I have to run errands and don’t want to be in yoga pants, I throw on these shorts. I love the washed out gray floral print and usually pair them with a slouchy shirt and retro kicks. But I recently wore them with a leather peplum and lace up sandals for a comfortable, but slightly dressy spin.

Ray-Ban Aviators, Cupcakes and Cashmere Dress, Nike Shoes

Sneakers and shift dress: This hot pink shift dress is one of those pieces that works for the office, a wedding, or for date nights, but I love that I can dress it down with basic white sneakers. These have a pop of neon that mimic the bright shade of the dress, so I can swap out the shoes and wear it to a meeting.
